Freezing Oranges, Batman!
So, it's pretty funny to me what makes the headlines in Central Florida. Each state has their catastrophic weather event - floods, mudslides, earthquakes, tornados, blizzards, etc.
Last night I turned on the late night local news (a rare event in my household) and was amazed at what first appeared to be a hurricane report. It was actually coverage of the overnight FREEZE alerts for our usually warm & sunny state. I actually heard a newscaster say something to the effect of ,'it's time to hunker down central florida - we could hit record lows tonight - stay inside if you can, the following shelters are also open...' (b-roll playing in the background with empty streets - Floridians are afraid to go out in the cold!)
I thought it was nuts being that I grew up in the NorthEast, where we hit temperatues below 32 degrees daily for at least 3 months out of the year.
We were also nervous about potentially freezing some of our lucrative crops because a number of them are already producing fruit - primarily oranges.
That made me think of a childhood favorite - ORANGE JULIUS. Are those still around?

4 Critiques:
I saw an Orange Julius / Dairy Queen combo in Clearwater a few weeks ago. I was suprised! I have never seen one outside a shopping mall.

The Crosscreek Mall in Fayetteville, NC has the DQ/OJ combo too. Aren't those great!

They have them at the Oak Ridge Mall too - I bought one to share with my guy b/c it is a childhood favorite of both of ours and he was so excited. Funny how the little things can bring such delight! Mmmm...Orange Julius.
PS: They served up great nachos back in the day. Although I will caveat that it was a 10 year old unrefined palatte, but I stick by my memory/review. ;-)

See, it is like this: Us native Floridians are lucky. We have nice weather. You Northeast folks have it BAD. REALLY BAD. Come down here and live for awhile...you'll see. The overaction on the news is just symptomatic of our spoiled selves. We are USED to great weather so when it dips below, we freak out.
MindComet knows my theory: In terms of evolution, humans are tropical animals. If we cannot live somewhere naked, we do not belong there...period! :)
