a message to the people in this wonderful building

What is wrong with you people? I just went into the bathroom to find yet another person in the stall talking on their cell phone. Seriously, do you really think that is OK? Toilets and cell phones don't go together. It's not like the person on the other end can't here what's going on. In fact, when I hear that someone is on the phone in the bathroom I flush the toilet over and over, the louder the better. I am starting a campaign... Stop Toilet Talkers... and this building is ground zero.

Ralphies Spring Break Adventure

We finished a video shoot for our client studentcity.com today. The video features our very own Jeremy "Paris" Hilton as the lovable Ralphie. Our team filmed Ralphie and his wild spring break adventures.

Breakfast Burrito

Oh how I love thee breakfast burrito. Your cheesy goodness is the only thing strong enough to fightoff my liquor induced compound hangover. The symphony of egg, sausage and peppers creates a beautiful medley that calms the angry monkeys waging war in my head. Your beautiful flour shell wraps my soul in a heavenly blanket of relief. I love you breakfast burrito, let no one tear us asunder.

"Christmas Thug Nation Style"

Christmas is just around the corner and it's time to start thinking about what we are going to do for this years Christmas party. For the past two years we have done a "Deep Fried and Double Wide" theme, basically an all out white trash ball complete with fried snickers and hermit crab racing. I am thinking we need to do something different this year. We still need to have a crazy theme, but 3 years in a row is just plain boring. Any ideas?

Audiobloggy

Mark here. The lady below in the black drirt (dress/skirt) looks like a white Jacke' (Sandra from 227 for those not in the know'd) doesn't she? She's like "Hey everybody! Check the drirt! Holla!" Like her, I am excited. But not because of my drirt. No, my excitement comes from being able to share Mindcomet's very first audioblog entry. Holla!

Alienskin

It's Saturday. Waiting to go shoot a video spot with a couple other guys and girls at work. Thought I'd upload a cool PhotoShop layer effect for all to use. Enjoy!

Note: The effect only looks good on fat objects, like big thick text or our creative director.

How art thou Phaser 7700?

How do I love thee Phaser 7700? Let me count the ways you bring cheer and joy to my everyday life:

1. Cardiovascular Exercise: I work approximately 64 steps away from the office printer. I get to make this trek no less than 20 times a day - on a good day. When the printer is cranky, it can be magnified exponentially to the point where I can skip the cardio workout at the gym for a day or two. 1 mile = 5,280 feet. On a good day I'm averaging at least 1/2 a mile round trip and on a bad day we're talking 2-3 miles.

2. DIY Toning: I've never really thought of myself as a 'Do It Yourself' type when it comes to mechanical repairs. I even have my car's oil dipstick checked by the pros. The office printer has enabled me to become a do it yourself office printer repair technician. With the Xerox folks on the phone, the entire front and side panel of the printer disassembled, toner stains on my new suit, and instructions upside down in Japanese... how could I be anything but delightful to my fellow co-workers the remainder of the day?

3. Patience: Let's not forget this zen like personality trait I often gloss over in my daily activity. The printer has taught me to expect the unexpected, drive to Kinko's on a moment's notice, order parts in the middle of the night through CDW, have panic attacks 10 minutes before a big client presentation, yell louder during jams and sip tea delightfully as it processes big jobs.

I checked out the most recent product details on the Xerox Phaser 7700 and found the important notice shown to the right.

Stay tuned for more heart thumping printer news...

Rate My Rat!Inspired by an alchohol induced daze, Ryan and Nicole dreamt of a day when people with rattails could gather together and rate one anothers flowing ratty locks. That day will come sometime next month. But for now, enjoy the concept goodness that is Rate My Rat!

MindComet Perks

Working at MindComet is great. We work hard and play hard. One might ask, "What keeps you going after working a 26 hour day?" It's the perks, baby. The perks. Here are just a few.
This is Sven. He's our in-house masseuse. From Shiatsu, to Swedish, to acupuncture - Sven does it all with a smile.
Does a client have you feeling down? Did you just get yet another comp rejected.. for the 16th time? For a quick pick-me-up turn to Ted. He'll turn your frown upside down.
Toys. Toys. Toys. If you got new software today chances are we got it yesterday. As you can see, Wes (the 3D guru!) is working hard rendering on his new Mac Plus.
Electric Slide. Brooklyn Boogy. And, of course, the infamous Hustle. Yeah, we do those.

Widget Mania!

"What is a widget," I hear you ask. Well, according to Webster (and I don't mean the vertically challenged orphan from sitcom's past), a widget is a deivice that is very useful for a particular job. And by job I mean playing video poker on your desktop, or finding out when the next episode of Hell's Kitchen airs, or learning the ingredients in a "Jamaican Me Crazy" ... you know, the stuff that makes or breaks the world.

If you own a Mac, and have upgraded to Tiger (10.4), you know all about these crazy widgets. So as a designer, and your friend, I wanted to share some of the 'gets I've been working on both on my own and for MindComet. Stick with me, this is going to go fast...

...We got a Dolor Sit Amet generator for designers... Program Schedule for the Speed Channel (a MindComet client)... Do it!... And finally, a work in progress... Parallax — an in-progress space shooter (just really an animation demo right now).

Enjoy!

A visit from WESH news channel 2

This morning we were visited by WESH channel 2, the local NBC news channel. Amanda Ober was here to interview us about blogs and blogsinspace.com. Blogsinspace.com is blowing up! We've had over 500 people sign up since yesterday from 43 countries in 12 different languages. We are very excited by the early success. I hope she got my good side.... awww who am I kidding? I don't have a bad side!

Welcome to CakePlow.com

The purpose of this blog/site is to allow the creative people at MindComet an outlet for experimentation. By "experimentation, we mean "the stuff the boss won't let us do for clients."

Here you'll read posts from designers, developers and anyone else at MindComet that has something funny or "unique" to express. If you feel the expressions are stupid, dull or downright re-donk-u-lous, feel free to critique us via the link below each post.

Now for a few introductions... meet some of the inhabitants you'll be hearing from:
